Introduction :
The jew’s harp is thought to be one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. It consists of a flexible tongue cut out of, or attached to, a small frame usually of bamboo or metal. The tongue is free at one end to allow it to be plucked with a finger or cord. The player holds the frame of the instrument between his teeth and plucks its tongue with his finger. The player’s mouth acts as a resonator. Changing the position of lips, cheeks, teeth, tongue and controlling the breath can make different sounds. The player holds the instrument in his mouth, and the name jew’s harp is generally considered to be a corruption of jaw’s harp. It produces a quiet but appealing sound, and is commonly used as a tool of passing on messages, expressing emotions and in courtship.
