Introduction :
Shofar is a ram’s horn used as a musical instrument in Judaism. Shofar is decorated with sacred or secular inscriptions. Broadly speaking, it was sounded at times of ceremony, such as the celebration of the new moon, at times of great significance, such as drought or famine, and as a signal for war.
Today, its use in secular contexts has largely been abandoned, though it was sounded in celebration of the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967. It retains its religious significance, however, and is particularly associated with Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah.
The calls played on the shofar vary greatly according to circumstance, tradition and players. All are essentially made from two notes – the precise pitches being dependent on the specific instrument – and the tremolo resulting from fast alternation between them. The shofar player is known as the “Ba’al Tokea” or “master of the blast”.
The horn is heated, worked into shape and hollowed out. A hole is made at the tip; some shofars are designed to be played directly through this hole, others use a mouthpiece. All kinds are played with buzzing lips familiar from trumpets and horns. Due to the irregular nature of the bore, the shofar does not always sound the same intervals.
Being primitive in design, shofar cannot sound many tones, thus, it has rarely been used in orchestral music. However, it resounds impressively in the synagogue, creating a solemn atmosphere.

Code : TT 134

Introduction :
Erhu has been called "Huqin", "Nanhu", is a representative stringed musical instrument and also widely used throughout China as a soloist and musical accompaniment. After the 1950s reform of musical instrument, silk strings were converted to metal strings, improving the sound quality and volume; using metal screw shaft, make pitch tuning more accurately, so that Erhu can be played with wider performance.
Erhu includes sound box, bar, strings, bridge, qianjin, bow and bottom bracket. Sound box of Erhu is mostly hexagonal or cylindrical. One side of the sound box is covered with python skin, while the other side is the acoustic window. In addition, qianjin, that is, using a string to tie around the bar and the middle section of the strings, is for regulating the pitch. Also there is a metal "S"-shaped small hook which can be moved up and down. Bridge is placed on the skin covered sound box to set up the strings. The vibrations generated by rubbing strings with the bow can be transmitted through the bridge. The pitch range of Erhu can reach about three octaves, however, in the ensemble, the range is generally not more than two octaves.
