Introduction :
Bongos are single-headed drums joined together. They also have calfskin heads, but these are thinner than conga heads, and tuned to a higher pitch. The bongos are held between the knees or placed on a stand.
Bongos are found in most Latin American countries. In Cuba they are made from short sections of hollow tree trunks with drum skins nailed over the larger ends, then held near a source of heat so that they become taut. Bongos are the highest-pitched hand drums of Latin America, and are widely used in popular music.
